You probably haven't heard of this before... but to be honest neither had I before yesterday! How would you feel about doing a trek on an active volcano? I grant you that it isnt everybody's cup of tea but I think it must be an incredible experience!
Many Tour Operators offer adventure packages to different volcanoes all around the world! One of the tour possibilities is a trip to Italy, to see 3 volcanoes : Etna, Vulcano and Stromboli. You can hike around the volcano and along the crater, watching this amazing force of nature! They also organise evening hikes, as you walk up you can hear the volcano grumbling and exploding and against all better judgement you walk towards it! But on these tours, you have a trained guide, who knows where to go! It isn't permitted to go climbing up there on your own. Although before they leave, they have to sign a paper acknowledging that there is a risk and that the company negates responsibilility for an accident!
There is even more crazy... on a 10 day tour in Hawaii, you can visit Kilauea, a volcano that has been erupting for 27 years! The red fiery lava runs down into the Pacific ocean like a cascade! You can see the ocean boil up instantly! The struggle of water against fire will be an unforgettable image to you! Hawaii truly is a mix of paradise and hell!
You can also hike up an active volcano here and actually walk on the lava! Of course it has solidified but it is still warm and you can see cracks with the red lava underneath! As you walk along the volcano, you can smell the sulphur! But when you get up there, you might be hungry... so on one of these tours they actually have a bbq on the volcano! But not a "normal" bbq, they put steaks on skewers and cook them on the red hot part of the stones!
Now that definately is an unforgettable meal!!
